LSE UCAS personal statement
LSE considers only the UCAS personal statement and does not accept an extra statement. It expects most of the space to show critical engagement with the chosen academic subject.
Writing format
Three UCAS questions, 350-character minimum each and 4,000 characters total
Academic integrity
LSE says the statement must be your own work and may reject an application if the statement was created with AI tools such as ChatGPT. Do not use AI to write it.
What to prepare
- 1Use the first question to explain why your chosen course interests you through a specific academic question.
- 2Use preparation and activities to show what you read, investigated, or made and what you concluded.
- 3Keep the third answer tied to the course rather than using it as an unrelated extracurricular list.
How to approach the writing
- LSE advises spending at least 80% of the statement on subject interest and evidence of critical engagement.
- Check that the academic interests you describe match the actual LSE programme, not a related subject it does not teach.
Before you submit
The same UCAS statement goes to your other course choices. LSE will not review a supplementary statement, so verify that your final three answers fit both the UCAS limits and your selected programme.
