Oxford personal statement
Oxford uses the UCAS personal statement to understand why you want to study your chosen course. The current UCAS format has three answers, at least 350 characters each, within 4,000 characters overall.

What to prepare
- 1Explain why the subject interests you, using a question, text, experiment, or project you pursued.
- 2Connect qualifications and studies to the way you would work in that course.
- 3Explain useful preparation outside formal education without turning the statement into a general activities list.
How to approach the writing
- Oxford recommends academic engagement with the subject over a dramatic personal story.
- If applying to related courses elsewhere, write about shared subject themes so the same UCAS statement remains relevant.

Course-specific written work, admissions tests, and interviews are separate from the UCAS statement. Check the requirements for your exact Oxford course.
