Newcastle Architecture personal statement and portfolio
Newcastle gives Architecture applicants subject-specific personal-statement advice: explain why they want to be an architect, discuss an architect they admire, and describe relevant experience. The school may ask for a separate portfolio, assessed through its application portal. The 2027 Architecture BA course page says applicants without Art or Design at A level, BTEC, or Higher Level IB will be asked to submit one.

What to prepare
- 1Use a building, place, or design problem to explain why architecture interests you beyond a general liking for art.
- 2Discuss one architect's work and what you have learned from it, naming a specific choice rather than only the architect's reputation.
- 3If you have relevant work experience, say what you observed or made and how it changed your understanding of the field.
How to approach the writing
- Write the statement in clear language as Newcastle advises, and keep it useful to every course receiving your UCAS application.
- If Newcastle requests a portfolio, select six to eight strong pieces in one PDF, annotate decisions and development, and stay within its 30 MB limit.
