Imperial Design Engineering personal statement
Imperial's Design Engineering MEng assesses the UCAS application, an admissions test, and, for shortlisted applicants, an interview. The department says external applicants cannot add a second personal statement. The one-page statement on its site is for internal Imperial course transfers only.

What to prepare
- 1Explain why the combination of engineering and design interests you, using a project or experiment you actually completed.
- 2Show what technical and creative choices you made beyond ordinary school assignments and what you learned from a result that did not work.
- 3Connect your evidence to why you would succeed in this course, rather than relying on a relative's work in the field.
How to approach the writing
- Use the structured 2027 UCAS statement to cover motivation, academic preparation, and experiences outside education within its overall character limit.
- Keep examples of your own work ready for the interview; the department says applicants may present selected projects briefly near its end.
