Exeter UCAS personal statement
Exeter reviews the UCAS personal statement as part of its undergraduate application, although it says achieved or predicted grades are the strongest predictor and statements may be considered more closely for some courses. Its guidance asks for a clear connection between subject choice, prior study, relevant work or volunteering, and readiness for higher-level learning. Course-specific interviews or tests are separate requirements.

What to prepare
- 1Explain why you chose the subject, using one academic question or experience that led you to explore it further.
- 2Connect prior subjects, paid or unpaid work, and responsibilities to skills needed for the course, saying what you learned rather than just naming activities.
- 3If a gap year applies, explain the learning or preparation it will provide rather than treating it as an unexplained break.
How to approach the writing
- Write for the course across all UCAS choices, because the shared statement is not an Exeter-only supplement.
- Keep extenuating circumstances in the appropriate contextual information route; Exeter separately considers additional statements supplied by a school or college.

Exeter lists January 13, 2027 at 18:00 UK time as its equal-consideration deadline for most UK undergraduate applicants, and October 15, 2026 for BMBS Medicine. Confirm the deadline, interview, and test rules on the exact 2027 course page and UCAS before submitting.
