Edinburgh Interior Design portfolio reflections
Edinburgh Interior Design applicants submit a UCAS personal statement and, after applying, a digital portfolio through a separate university system. The portfolio is assessed for visual enquiry, idea development, resolution, and awareness of design practice. Short text alongside images should reveal how the applicant explored ideas and made design decisions; it is not a second stand-alone essay.
Writing format
UCAS personal statement, then a separate PDF portfolio of up to 20 pages with short reflective text
What to prepare
- 1Caption selected projects with what you tried, tested, and changed, and explain why those decisions improved the work.
- 2Describe the material, colour, light, or spatial choices that matter in each project rather than repeating what the image already shows.
- 3Identify a current design theme or practitioner that interests you and show its connection to your own experiments.
How to approach the writing
- Apply through UCAS, then follow the university's separate portfolio upload instructions sent to the email in your UCAS application.
- Prepare one PDF of at most 20 pages and 50 MB; Edinburgh allows no more than five pages for each of its four assessment criteria.
Before you submit
Edinburgh lists a December 1, 2026 to January 27, 2027 submission window and a final portfolio deadline of noon GMT on January 27. Check the live programme page and the email for your own upload account before submitting; a UCAS application alone does not complete the portfolio requirement.
