Edinburgh Film and Television portfolio responses
Edinburgh's Film and Television BA asks for a separate portfolio after the UCAS application. Its three written questions ask which part of filmmaking matters most to the applicant, what they would bring to the course, and which film scene influenced them and why. The film must be a complete work or strong excerpt, not a showreel, music video, travel report, storyboard, or social-media reel.
Writing format
Three written responses of up to 250 words each and one film of up to five minutes
What to prepare
- 1For the filmmaking-interest answer, identify a specific creative choice you enjoy making and explain why it matters to the final work.
- 2For the course-contribution answer, use evidence from something you have already made or done with others.
- 3For the film-scene answer, analyze the choice that affected you and how it changed your own practice rather than summarizing the scene.
How to approach the writing
- Give each 250-word answer a distinct purpose and keep claims about your process consistent with the submitted film.
- Submit the film and responses in Edinburgh's separate portfolio system after UCAS; check that the video is accessible and includes English subtitles if needed.
Before you submit
For 2027 entry, UCAS is due January 13, 2027 at 6 p.m. GMT and the portfolio is due January 27 at noon GMT. Read the live degree page before submitting because the film and three answers are both required.
