Edinburgh Fashion portfolio reflections
Edinburgh Fashion applicants submit a UCAS personal statement and a separate portfolio. The portfolio can include annotated references to historical and contemporary fashion, independent research, process images, experiments with fabric or form, and finished work. Short written reflections explain how those influences and tests shaped the applicant's design decisions; there is no separate long fashion essay.

What to prepare
- 1Name a designer, artwork, cultural reference, or observation and explain what you tested in response, rather than using an influence as decoration.
- 2Annotate a sketch, fabric trial, or garment experiment with the decision it led you to make or revise.
- 3Use concise text beside images to connect research, development, and outcomes so a reader can follow the work without a spoken explanation.
How to approach the writing
- Arrange the PDF around Edinburgh's four assessment areas; it permits up to 20 pages, with at most five for each criterion, and a 50 MB file.
- Keep the UCAS statement distinct from portfolio annotations and include both personal and school projects where they show your process.
Before you submit
The 2027 UCAS deadline is January 13 at 6 p.m. GMT, while the separate portfolio is due January 27 at noon GMT. The same portfolio criteria apply to second-year entry, but Edinburgh expects greater depth and breadth from those applicants.
