Cambridge Foundation Year supplementary questionnaire
Cambridge Foundation Year applicants apply through UCAS and then complete a separate Foundation Year Supplementary Application Questionnaire (FYSAQ). The FYSAQ collects evidence of eligibility and free-text answers about motivation for the course. It gives applicants space to discuss the Foundation Year even when their UCAS statement focuses on a subject shared with other university choices.

What to prepare
- 1Explain what interests you in the Foundation Year and what you hope to gain from its arts, humanities, and social-sciences preparation.
- 2Connect your educational experiences to your motivation to study, while keeping factual eligibility evidence in the form's evidence sections.
- 3If responsibilities or disruption affected your education, describe their effect in your own terms without assuming you must disclose more than the form asks.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the UCAS subject statement and the Foundation Year-specific FYSAQ answers distinct; use the latter to add context the shared UCAS statement cannot carry.
- Collect eligibility documents before the personal FYSAQ link arrives and follow the 2027 form's own questions and limits.
Before you submit
The 2027 UCAS deadline is 13 January at 6 p.m. UK time. Cambridge sends a personal FYSAQ link and deadline after receiving the UCAS application, usually allowing about two weeks or less near the deadline. Check eligibility first: the course addresses educational disadvantage and requires ordinary UK residence.
