York Screenwriting portfolio and questionnaire
York AMPD's Screenwriting and Creative Producing supplement asks for one PDF of original writing and answers about a feasible ten-minute film story, a compelling fictional character, and a recent creative project. Select applicants then complete a live two-hour writing exercise and Zoom Q&A. Film Studies and Creative Media Industries BA has no such supplement.
Writing format
Up to three original writing samples of 4–6 double-spaced pages each, plus a three-part questionnaire
What to prepare
- 1Choose no more than three original samples from screenwriting, playwriting, or narrative prose; each sample should be 4–6 double-spaced pages, and excerpts from longer work are allowed.
- 2For the ten-minute film response, describe a story that a small student crew could make with limited locations rather than a large production pitch.
- 3Answer the character and recent-project questions with specific choices and your own role in the work.
How to approach the writing
- Submit the main application through OUAC, wait for York's supplementary evaluation access, and upload the samples together as one PDF.
- Keep the portfolio and questionnaire separate on your checklist. The live writing exercise happens only if evaluators invite you to the next round.
Before you submit
York AMPD lists February 5, 2027 as the Summer/Fall supplementary deadline for guaranteed consideration. Access follows the main application and may take time, so verify the live portal instructions and your own application deadline early.
