York Film Production questionnaire and portfolio
York's Film Production BFA asks applicants to propose a short documentary or fiction film feasible without a budget, discuss a favourite film or director, and reflect on a recent creative project they helped make. Applicants also submit visual work. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an interview. This is a different supplement from York's Screenwriting and Creative Producing writing portfolio.

What to prepare
- 1Use the one-paragraph proposal to show a film idea that a small crew could actually shoot without a budget; name the central subject or action and how it might be filmed.
- 2For the film or director response, explain a specific creative choice that affected how you think about filmmaking rather than listing favourites.
- 3Describe your own role in a recent project and what the experience taught you about making work with others.
How to approach the writing
- Apply through OUAC, then use York's supplementary evaluation access for the questionnaire and portfolio.
- York asks for a video of no more than five minutes directed by you, or work where you specify your role as videographer, writer, or editor. It also accepts photographs or other visual art. Keep portfolio work separate from the written answers.
Before you submit
York's Film Production program page says the interview is for shortlisted applicants and usually occurs in February or March. Its Fall 2027 admissions page gives February 5, 2027 as the supplementary deadline for guaranteed consideration. Confirm the live portal questions, portfolio format, and your own application deadline before submitting.
