Windsor on-campus MSW personal statement
Windsor's on-campus MSW application asks how the applicant's experiences motivate graduate social work study and a commitment to social justice, then asks for an analysis of a chosen practice area. Its one-year advanced-standing and two-year regular tracks have different deadlines. This statement is separate from the undergraduate BSW professional-years package and the online MSW for Working Professionals.

Two responses of up to 400 words each in one 800-word personal statement
What to prepare
- 1In up to 400 words, connect work, volunteer, social, personal, or professional experiences to your motivation for graduate social work and creating change. If you do not hold a BSW, explain the relevance of your previous studies.
- 2In up to 400 words, explain why you chose an area such as child welfare, health, or gerontology and analyze the social problems you understand within it.
- 3Review both responses for clear, concise reasoning and the connection between your intended practice area and professional goals; these are stated assessment criteria.
How to approach the writing
- Let the first response establish your motivation and practice experience; use the second to show critical thinking about a defined social problem.
- Keep the professional experience form, CV, references, and signed program policy statement separate from the statement itself.
Before you submit
The 2026–27 package sets November 15, 2026 for May 2027 advanced standing and January 15, 2027 for September 2027 regular track. Use single spacing and 12-point Times New Roman or Arial; upload the statement under Study Plan/Research Interest in UWinsite. Complete references by the application deadline.
