UVic Social Work statement of intent
UVic's later-entry Bachelor of Social Work has two application parts: the university application and a School of Social Work supplement. The supplement combines a statement about the fit between the BSW and the applicant's interests and background with a summary of employment, volunteering, and education. It is not a general first-year UVic essay.

What to prepare
- 1Explain how your interests and background align with the BSW's social work study, using an experience that changed your understanding.
- 2Describe relevant work, volunteering, and education accurately in the experience summary instead of restating the full list in the statement.
- 3Connect the learning you want from the program to the preparation you have already completed for later entry.
How to approach the writing
- Apply to UVic or request the appropriate program change or readmission first, then complete the School's separate package.
- Download the current School PDF, fill both parts, and submit the completed package through the linked upload form.
Before you submit
UVic's page lists a January 31 supplemental deadline but no intake year. It also requires 30 units of prerequisites, including SOCW 200A and 200B or equivalents. Check the current PDF, upload link, and deadline for your intended entry year.
