UFV Creative Arts personal statement
UFV requires an entry portfolio for Visual Arts BFA, Media Arts, Graphic and Digital Design, and the Indigenous Arts Certificate. Every package includes a personal statement identifying the chosen program, the reason for applying, and what the applicant hopes to learn. The optional portfolio narrative is a separate item.

Mandatory one-page written statement or recording up to three minutes, plus creative portfolio
Academic integrity
UFV permits generative AI in portfolio work only with a citation and disclosure of its role. Describe your own creative choices and follow the current submission instructions.
What to prepare
- 1Name your exact UFV program and explain what draws you to that program's kind of creative practice.
- 2Connect an experience or piece of current work to the skills and questions you hope to develop there.
- 3If helpful, identify support you would need to succeed; keep that distinct from the optional explanation of portfolio pieces.
How to approach the writing
- Choose either a one-page written statement or a video or audio recording of at most three minutes. Both formats answer the same required questions.
- Build the portfolio within UFV's separate caps of eight visual pieces, three minutes of video or audio, or six pages of writing, then submit through SlideRoom after applying to UFV.
Before you submit
UFV lists April 30 for fall applications and portfolios and September 30 for winter; international applicants are advised to apply earlier. Check the live intake and program availability. If generative AI informed portfolio work, UFV requires a tool citation and a short disclosure of how it was used.
