U of T Visual Studies portfolio statement
Daniels Visual Studies applicants submit images of their creative work and a written statement about selected pieces. The statement must connect making, research, personal context where relevant, and contemporary art.
Writing format
Six to eight images and a 250–650 word statement about two or three works
Academic integrity
Daniels prohibits generative AI, including ChatGPT, from creating application images or text presented as your own and says violations can lead to refusal.
What to prepare
- 1Choose two or three submitted works that reveal different parts of your creative process.
- 2Explain the ideas and research behind each selected work and name the materials and methods you used.
- 3Connect the work to contemporary art and add personal experience only where it shaped the process.
How to approach the writing
- Write about the works a reviewer can actually see in your six to eight images.
- Use the 250–650 words to show decisions and inquiry, not to list achievements already elsewhere in the application.
Before you submit
Daniels lists February 1, 2027 as the final deadline, allows one final submission, and prohibits generative AI-created images or text. Confirm the image and statement requirements in the live portal.
