U of T Architectural Studies One Idea supplement
Daniels asks Architectural Studies applicants to make an object from household materials, document it in exactly three photographs, and explain their material and design decisions. This is the BAAS supplement, not the Visual Studies portfolio.
Writing format
Three photographs of a handmade object and a summary of up to 200 words
Academic integrity
Daniels prohibits generative AI, including ChatGPT, from creating images or text presented as your own in the supplement and says violations can lead to refusal.
What to prepare
- 1Describe the object you actually made and the decision that most changed its form or use.
- 2Explain why you chose its materials and how you assembled them within the 200-word limit.
- 3Select three photographs with different jobs: the finished object, its construction, and a detail that reveals an idea or technique.
How to approach the writing
- Use the summary to explain choices the photographs cannot show rather than narrating each image.
- Daniels values experimentation with ordinary materials; an elaborate portfolio is neither required nor accepted for this route.
Before you submit
The final 2027 deadline is February 1. Daniels allows one final submission and prohibits generative AI from creating application images or text; make and write the work yourself.
