TMU Photography Media Arts portfolio statements
TMU's Photography Media Arts BFA asks for twelve visual works in two groups. Applicants introduce the first six works with a statement about their chosen theme, then submit a separate statement about their interest in photography and their goals in the program.
Writing format
A 250-word portfolio-theme statement and a separate 250-word program statement
What to prepare
- 1Define the theme linking your first six images and explain how the sequence develops it rather than describing each image in isolation.
- 2Use the separate program statement to explain what you want to learn through photography and media art, with a goal grounded in work you already make.
- 3Let the second group of six works demonstrate range; use captions and selections to show abilities that the themed sequence does not cover.
How to approach the writing
- Treat the theme introduction and program statement as different writing tasks, each capped at 250 words.
- Compile the twelve examples into one labeled portfolio PDF, and upload the separate statement and résumé PDFs through ChooseTMU.
Before you submit
The Fall 2027 non-academic due date is February 1, 2027 or ten business days after application, whichever is later. Check TMU's current file and video-link rules and pay the required assessment fee.
