TMU Interior Design portfolio statement
TMU's Interior Design BFA asks applicants to explain why they want to study design in depth and how their portfolio reflects their interests and aspirations. The statement is the first page of a single portfolio PDF, after a required manually drawn chair-and-figure title page.
Writing format
One portfolio PDF with a manual title-page drawing and a statement of up to 250 words
What to prepare
- 1Identify a design question you want to study and link it to a specific piece or experiment in the portfolio.
- 2Explain how the work shows your interests and aspirations through actual decisions about space, materials, observation, or making.
- 3Write brief captions for each image that name the idea, process, and tools without repeating the 250-word statement.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the required chair-and-figure drawing on the title page, the statement next, and no more than ten pages of work after it.
- Use work that demonstrates curiosity and experimentation; TMU says it does not have to be specific to architecture or design.
Before you submit
TMU lists February 1, 2027 or ten business days after application, whichever is later, for Fall 2027 non-academic materials. Submit the single PDF in ChooseTMU and complete the assessment fee step.
