TMU Fashion statement of intent
TMU's Fashion BDes asks applicants to write about something that influenced how they think about fashion. The statement explains why that influence matters, what it reveals about fashion today, and how it shaped their interest in the degree. Four creative portfolio pieces form a separate part of the non-academic requirements.

Academic integrity
TMU requires the statement and portfolio to be your own work. Any outside sources must be acknowledged; plagiarized or misrepresented work can lead to admission being revoked.
What to prepare
- 1Choose one concrete influence, such as an observation, object, person, community, image, or issue, that changed your thinking about fashion.
- 2Explain what that influence reveals about fashion today, then connect your response to why you want to study Fashion at TMU.
- 3Cite any research, books, media, or other outside sources you use, as TMU's prompt explicitly requests.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the statement near 500 words and let the four portfolio pieces show the making, exploration, or communication behind your ideas.
- Apply first, then include your TMU student number on statement and portfolio files submitted through SlideRoom.
Before you submit
For Fall 2027, TMU gives February 1, 2027 or 10 business days after the university application, whichever is later, for non-academic requirements. Check the live SlideRoom task and pay the assessment fee. TMU requires the submitted statement and portfolio to be your own work.
