TMU Architectural Science portfolio writing sample
TMU's Architectural Science portfolio combines 12–14 creative works with a separate home exercise. The writing sample explains the object selected for that exercise, what its drawn section reveals, and the purpose of a third contextual image.
Writing format
Up to 150 words about the required object-section exercise
What to prepare
- 1Name the object you chose for the section drawing and explain why it was worth close observation.
- 2Describe a spatial, material, or functional relationship that became visible through the section rather than only describing the object's exterior.
- 3Explain the intention behind your third image and how it extends the idea shown in the drawing and photograph.
How to approach the writing
- Write after making the images so every claim refers to work the reviewer can see.
- Use the 150 words for thoughtful reflection on design choices; title, medium, and size belong with the separate portfolio pieces.
Before you submit
Place the writing sample on an additional page after the home-exercise images in one PDF. TMU lists February 1, 2027 or ten business days after applying, whichever is later, and says multiple portfolio submissions are not considered.
