McMaster post-degree BSW personal statement
McMaster's post-degree BSW route is for applicants who have already completed a recognized undergraduate degree and the specified introductory coursework. The School of Social Work requires a supplementary application; completing it unlocks a separate Personal Statement in the McMaster Student Portal. This is not the first-year Engineering or Health Sciences supplement.

What to prepare
- 1Read the personal-statement questions in the McMaster Student Portal after completing the supplementary form; the public instructions do not reproduce them.
- 2Choose experience that explains your interest in professional social work and connect it to what you learned, without assuming the portal asks for a generic why-school essay.
- 3Keep your account of paid, volunteer, or community work consistent with the supplementary application and academic record.
How to approach the writing
- Check post-degree eligibility and the prerequisite courses before investing time in the statement.
- Complete the general application through the route for your prior university, then the school supplement, then the unlocked statement; allow time for portal access.
Before you submit
McMaster says the September 2027 supplementary application and Personal Statement both close February 2, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Its page still labels the 2026 form closed and says updated instructions will appear in October 2026. Confirm the live statement questions, limit, and portal access when the 2027 form opens.
