McMaster Commerce written supplementary application
DeGroote Commerce calls its written supplementary application optional but strongly recommends it to applicants whose grades are near the lower end of the expected range. The supplement lets applicants discuss extracurricular activity, leadership, resilience, and motivation; the Commerce program page also connects it with entrance scholarship consideration. This is a Commerce route, not McMaster's separate Integrated Business and Humanities supplement.

DeGroote says supplement responses must be entirely the applicant's work and prohibits generative AI and collaboration in preparing them.
What to prepare
- 1Choose activities where your own contribution and the result are clear, rather than filling all seven activity fields with similar examples.
- 2For longer answers, reflect on a real leadership or team decision, a setback, and what motivates your interest in business.
- 3Use the live questions in the Slate form; DeGroote's public preparation questions illustrate themes rather than publishing the assessed prompts.
How to approach the writing
- Apply to Commerce first, activate your MacID, then open the optional supplement in Slate and save drafts before submitting.
- Write the responses yourself. DeGroote prohibits working with others or using generative AI to prepare them.
Before you submit
The Commerce program page lists April 30, 2027, but the linked supplement page still shows an April 17, 2026 deadline and 2025 opening. Confirm the 2027 deadline, question count, and scholarship rules in your MacID/Slate application before relying on either page.
