Manitoba Music personal essay
Applicants to Manitoba's Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Jazz Studies submit a personal essay alongside an audition and two recommendations. The essay asks what they aspire to do in music and how they plan to pursue it; it is a Music admission requirement, not a general University of Manitoba statement.

What to prepare
- 1Name a musical direction you want to explore and connect it to an experience that shaped your interest.
- 2Explain the steps you expect to take toward that goal, such as study, performance, composition, collaboration, or teaching.
- 3Choose an example that adds context to your audition rather than narrating every piece in your repertoire.
How to approach the writing
- Use the 250–300 words to connect aspiration and plan; leave the detailed performance evidence to the audition.
- Arrange the two recommendations and audition materials separately. Their submission steps do not replace the essay.
Before you submit
Manitoba's page is titled 2026–27 but still lists a January 15, 2026 application and essay deadline. Confirm the deadline for your intended intake with the Music admissions team rather than carrying that date forward.
