Dalhousie Law JD personal statement questions
Schulich Law publishes three required personal-statement questions for JD applicants. They ask about the future supported by legal education, a change the law should address urgently, and a recent piece of reading. This is a post-secondary law application, not Dalhousie's first-year undergraduate supplement.
Writing format
Three answers: up to 400, 400, and 250 words
What to prepare
- 1Connect your reasons for legal study to a future you can describe concretely, within the first 400-word limit.
- 2Choose a legal or social change you understand well enough to explain why it needs a more urgent response; the second answer has its own 400-word limit.
- 3Discuss a recent book, article, or blog post and explain your reaction in no more than 250 words; the school asks for your judgment, not a plot summary.
How to approach the writing
- Draft three separate answers and check each limit independently before copying them into the application.
- Keep the reading example specific and use the short space to show how you think, while writing in your own voice.
Before you submit
The official page still says its fact sheet is being updated for 2025/26 and gives conflicting upload instructions: its checklist says to upload a statement, while the statement section says to enter answers in the form without a separate file. Verify the live application fields and current deadline; the statement section says answers cannot be edited after submission.
