Concordia Design letter of intent
Concordia's Design and Computation Arts department asks for a letter explaining program choice, interests, goals, experience, and technical skills. Design and Computation Arts applicants may share one portfolio, but need separate letters for each program.
Writing format
One-page letter of intent, about 500 words, with a creative portfolio
What to prepare
- 1Name the program you are applying to and explain what in its curriculum matches your work.
- 2Summarize technical, software, image-making, or object-making skills with specific examples from the portfolio.
- 3Identify strengths and honest gaps in your experience, then connect them to what you want to learn.
How to approach the writing
- Use project descriptions to explain process and intent; credit collaborators and tutorial sources explicitly.
- Keep the one-page letter distinct from a résumé by explaining why the program and your practice belong together.
Before you submit
Apply to Concordia before uploading the portfolio and letter. If applying to both Design and Computation Arts, prepare an individual letter for each program and confirm the current submission deadline in SlideRoom.
