Concordia Communication Studies two-part application essay
Concordia's Communication Studies department asks applicants to both its Communication Studies and Communication & Cultural Studies BAs for a two-part essay. Part one critically analyzes one of three named media pieces and connects it to everyday life and previous study. Part two explains the applicant's fit with the chosen BA after reviewing the department's programs, courses, and research. Applicants to both BAs need a separate essay file for each.

Concordia says applicants must write these essays in their own words; generative AI tools such as ChatGPT are not allowed and may disqualify an application.
What to prepare
- 1Choose one of the three works listed on Concordia's live page and explain a specific image, sound, or idea before connecting it to your own observations.
- 2For the second essay, identify a course or research area that matches your learning goals and explain the connection to your experience or creative interests.
- 3Name the exact BA you are applying to; if applying to both, make the program-fit answer distinct in each submission.
How to approach the writing
- Keep each part within 500 words and combine them into one PDF for the Student Centre upload.
