Carleton Social Work supplementary essay
Carleton's Bachelor of Social Work supplement asks applicants to connect life, work, and educational experience to wider society and their interest in social work. It also collects a résumé and offers a separate optional explanation of circumstances affecting performance.
Writing format
Required admissions essay, up to 500 words or 3,500 characters; optional context essay
What to prepare
- 1Choose experiences that show how you noticed a social issue and what you learned from engaging with it.
- 2Explain why those experiences point toward social work rather than just a broad desire to help people.
- 3If relevant, use the optional context response for circumstances that affected your academic or work record.
How to approach the writing
- Use Carleton's published rubric to check whether your answer links experience, society, and professional goals.
- Keep the optional circumstances essay separate from the required admissions argument.
Before you submit
Carleton lists March 1, 2027 for the degree application and March 5 for the supplement. It allows only one final submission, so proofread the portal copy before sending.
