UCalgary rural nursing personal statement
UCalgary requires a personal statement from applicants to its Rural Community Route. The nursing faculty reviews the statement alongside academic history and proof that the applicant lives in the selected site's service region. This route has separate requirements from the main-campus BScN lottery.

What to prepare
- 1Describe your connection to the rural community where you live through a specific experience or continuing role.
- 2Explain your commitment to practising rural nursing and the needs you have observed in that community.
- 3Show how your experience has prepared you to study and undertake clinical placements near the program site.
How to approach the writing
- Use the statement to explain connection and commitment; provide residency evidence separately as requested.
- Keep the community and nursing examples personal and specific without assuming a word limit the faculty has not published.

Drayton Valley is the site explicitly listed for the next Fall 2027 admission; the other sites' published next intakes are Fall 2026. Confirm that your site is accepting applications, its service-region rules, the current statement instructions and deadline before submitting. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
