UNBC Bachelor of Education statement of intent
UNBC's Bachelor of Education application asks for a statement about entering teaching and how experiences with children and youth have shaped the applicant's understanding of learners and the profession. It is a competitive-entry route after substantial prior post-secondary study, not a direct high-school admission essay.

What to prepare
- 1Explain why you want to teach through an experience working with children or youth and what it changed in your thinking about learners.
- 2Connect that experience to your view of the teaching profession and the skills or talents you would bring to it.
- 3If relevant, explain barriers to education for consideration under UNBC's Access Initiative; follow the checklist for a separate sheet if you interrupted an education program.
How to approach the writing
- Be specific about your role and observations rather than making broad claims about loving teaching.
- Keep the statement to two double-spaced pages with your name on each page; complete the separate experience-with-children-and-youth resume form and three referee entries.
