UBC Bachelor of Social Work personal statement
UBC Vancouver's Bachelor of Social Work is a later-entry undergraduate degree for applicants with at least 60 transferable credits or an eligible bachelor's degree, not a first-year high-school supplement. The School evaluates the personal statement alongside relevant social-service experience and two references.

Personal statement of no more than 500 words covering five published questions
What to prepare
- 1Explain why the UBC BSW specifically fits your intended social work practice, then trace how your interest began.
- 2Identify a practice area that interests you and connect it to direct experience with people facing disadvantage, where you have it.
- 3Address both strengths and limitations in working with diversity and social justice; the form asks for honest self-assessment, not a claim of perfect readiness.
- 4Answer why the School should choose you with a contribution supported by an example rather than repeating your résumé.
How to approach the writing
- Allocate the 500-word total across all five questions in the School's current linked statement form.
- Keep the employment, volunteer, and equity supplement forms together in one PDF, while sending the personal statement as a clearly named separate attachment.

The published September 2027 deadline for the university application and supplemental materials is January 15, 2027. Confirm the current forms, required 100 hours of relevant experience, and reference instructions before emailing the School.
