UBC Okanagan Visual Arts letter of intent
The UBC Okanagan BFA in Visual Arts asks for a letter explaining why the applicant wants to study visual arts, submitted together with work samples. Its route is distinct from UBC Vancouver's BFA and other UBC creative supplements.

What to prepare
- 1Explain the artistic question or practice that makes you want sustained studio study, using one of your submitted works as evidence.
- 2Describe what you discovered while making or revising that work rather than claiming a skill level the portfolio does not show.
- 3Connect the next direction you want to explore to the Visual Arts program without turning the letter into a generic biography.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the letter within 300 words; an artist statement is welcome but is not mandatory.
- Prepare the image-description page and portfolio file together with the letter, following the department's image, video, and file-size instructions.

The department's page still refers to fall 2026 submissions. Confirm the current intake deadline and submission route after applying, and send the portfolio and letter together as instructed.
