UBC Media Studies written response
UBC's Bachelor of Media Studies supplement pairs two submitted media objects with a short reflection on what creating them taught the applicant. The response is entered directly in the form, not uploaded as a separate essay.
Writing format
Two media objects and a written reflection of at most 1,200 characters
Academic integrity
UBC Media Studies treats AI as a collaborator on media objects and requires collaborators to be credited. Your response should describe your own work and decisions.
What to prepare
- 1Refer to both submitted objects and a concrete choice you made while producing each one.
- 2Explain what the making process taught you about your practice as a media creator or theorist.
- 3Connect background, intended audience, or hoped-for impact to the actual work where relevant.
How to approach the writing
- Use the 1,200 characters for analysis rather than a second description of the objects.
- Credit collaborators and distinguish your contribution to any group work.
Before you submit
The 2027 supplement runs from November 2, 2026 through January 17, 2027. Check that both object links open without a password in a private browser window. UBC does not accept a physical portfolio or recommendation letters for this supplement.
