UBC Centennial Scholars description of circumstance
UBC's Centennial Scholars Entrance Award has a separate application for eligible Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and protected persons entering a direct-entry undergraduate program. Its Description of Circumstance explains financial need, contributions, and the effect the award would have. It is distinct from UBC's general admission Personal Profile and the International Scholars award essays.

Separate award statement of no more than 1,000 words
What to prepare
- 1Explain the personal, family, and financial circumstances that make the award necessary, using details that give the committee useful context.
- 2Describe a contribution to your school, community, or family and why you want to join and contribute to UBC.
- 3Show how receiving the award would change your ability to study now and your opportunities afterward.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the Description of Circumstance within 1,000 words and answer its distinct need, contribution, and impact parts.
- Coordinate the reference and parent or guardian financial form when applicable; those are separate parts of a complete award application.
Before you submit
UBC lists December 1 for both admission and the complete award application. The award applies only to the applicant's first-choice campus and degree. Confirm the 2027 portal instructions, eligibility, and deadline before submitting.
