OCAD U Visual and Critical Studies writing requirements
OCAD U's non-studio BA in Visual and Critical Studies asks for two pieces of writing: a statement of intent and an original writing sample on a topic assigned after application. It reviews the written assignment together with academic records rather than using the BDes/BFA portfolio route.

What to prepare
- 1Use the statement of intent to explain your interest in studying visual culture and critical analysis at OCAD U.
- 2Wait for the assigned topic before drafting the original writing sample; do not treat a past sample question as the current prompt.
- 3In the writing sample, develop a clear interpretation or argument supported by specific observations rather than a list of interests.
How to approach the writing
- Give the statement and the assigned writing sample different jobs: motivation in one, evidence of analysis in the other.
- Check the email sent after application for the topic, submission method, and deadline before final editing.
