Nipissing social work statement and issue analysis
Nipissing's BSW Professional Years supplement asks for two different pieces of writing. The statement of interest explains why the applicant seeks professional social work education and which experiences shaped that choice. The analysis identifies a current social issue, examines causes and effects, and discusses how social workers could help reduce it. Each is scored separately in the admission review.

Two separate two-page, double-spaced pieces: statement of interest and social-issue analysis
What to prepare
- 1In the statement of interest, connect a specific experience to your reasons for pursuing social work rather than reciting your résumé.
- 2In the issue analysis, define one current social issue clearly and examine contributing factors and effects on people and society.
- 3Explain a realistic social worker role in reducing the issue, linking the analysis to classroom learning and critical reflection.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the personal motivation statement distinct from the analytic response; Nipissing assigns each 15% of its admission assessment.
- Follow the two-page, double-spaced, 12-point Arial format for each piece and put your name on both. References do not count toward the issue analysis's page limit.
Before you submit
Nipissing lists February 8, 2027 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern for non-academic requirements and instructs applicants to email the two pieces to Admissions. This is the upper-year BSW Professional Years route, which requires prior post-secondary credits and specified courses; confirm your route and receipt of all documents in My Nipissing.
