Lethbridge music composition studio essay
Lethbridge asks composition studio audition applicants for an essay and portfolio. The audition is not required for initial Bachelor of Music admission; it is required for music scholarship consideration and studio courses after Studio IV. Transfer and post-diploma applicants also audition for studio-level placement.

Approximately 600-word composition essay and one to three work samples
What to prepare
- 1Explain why you want to study composition in the Bachelor of Music, using a specific musical question or project.
- 2Describe your composition background and experience, including the choices behind a submitted piece.
- 3Discuss inspirations and goals in relation to the one to three current compositions you submit separately.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the essay near the school's approximate 600-word target and distinguish your contribution to collaborative work.
- Select work samples that show your present practice; include audio when possible, including a MIDI realization if appropriate.
Before you submit
Apply to the university before the audition. The published 2027 scholarship rounds are February 6, March 6, and May 8, with the studio audition application due at least two weeks beforehand; verify the current round and delivery instructions with the Music Department.
