Laurier special case personal statement
Laurier provides a separate personal statement route when recent or current circumstances affected an applicant's academic standing. Applicants decide which supporting details to disclose. This form has a different review purpose from the Applicant Background Summary, which covers extracurricular involvement and achievements.

What to prepare
- 1Name the period and academic work affected, then explain the impact in terms you are comfortable sharing.
- 2Describe any change in circumstances or steps that help the admission team understand your current academic readiness.
- 3Keep extracurricular achievements in the separate Applicant Background Summary rather than using this statement as a second activities list.
How to approach the writing
- Use the Strengthen Your Application area of Laurier's applicant portal after applying; choose the Special Case or Extenuating Circumstances form.
- Disclose only details needed to explain the academic effect. Laurier leaves supporting detail to the applicant's choice.
Before you submit
Laurier recommends submitting within two weeks of applying and currently lists final dates of April 1 for spring, April 25 for fall and December 1 for winter. Confirm the deadline for your entry term in the live portal. Do not put extenuating circumstances in the Applicant Background Summary form.
