Holland College Fundamental Arts letter of intent and portfolio
Holland College's Fundamental Arts certificate assesses a portfolio alongside academic admission requirements and a résumé. The portfolio includes a short letter of intent, or a video instead, addressing what the applicant hopes to gain from Fundamental Arts, their art journey, and future plans. The college also specifies observational drawing, colour work, and original pieces; a general college essay is not listed.

What to prepare
- 1Answer all three published intent questions: what you want to learn in Fundamental Arts, how your art practice developed, and what you hope to do next.
- 2Use a concrete example of your recent work to connect the short statement to the art in your portfolio.
- 3If you choose a video, cover the same questions rather than treating it as a substitute for the visual pieces.
How to approach the writing
- Curate 7–10 original pieces across at least three mediums, with recent work from the past two years. Cover the observational, colour, and personal-work categories while keeping within the college's overall piece count.
- Use clear images and descriptions in a multipage PDF or linked document. Submit through MyDashboard, following the college's email route if the file exceeds its upload limit.
Before you submit
Holland's September 2026 program page has not yet been relabeled for fall 2027, but its live availability table lists Fundamental Arts at Prince of Wales Campus as open for fall 2027. Confirm your applicant category, current seat status, letter or video format, and submission instructions before applying. The portfolio page does not publish a word limit for the video or a dated deadline.
