Algoma Visual Arts personal statement and portfolio
Algoma's Visual Arts portfolio includes a personal statement and examples of ten recent works. The statement explains the applicant's artistic background and goals; the works show the range of the practice. This is a Visual Arts requirement, not a general Algoma admissions essay.

Approximately 500-word statement and 10 current works
What to prepare
- 1Explain why you want to study art, naming the interests and influences that shaped the work in your portfolio.
- 2Describe your arts education honestly, including learning outside formal classes where relevant.
- 3Connect one or two selected works to a question or direction you want to pursue at Algoma, without writing captions for all ten pieces.
How to approach the writing
- Apply to Algoma before sending the portfolio. The school asks for JPEG works with an image list or one PDF containing the images and their information.
- Give each work its title, year, medium, and size; the optional work description is capped at 50 words.
Before you submit
The portfolio page gives no entry-year deadline. Confirm the admission term and portfolio submission address before emailing the statement and works; the statement target is approximately 500 words.
