Vanderbilt supplemental essay
Vanderbilt asks both first-year and transfer applicants for a personal essay through their application platform and a separate short answer about its 'dare to grow' motto. The short answer asks how identity, culture, or background has shaped personal growth and how that perspective could contribute to Vanderbilt's community. The platform personal essay has its own prompt choices.

- 2Explain what changed in your thinking or actions, then connect that perspective to a realistic way you might contribute on campus.
- 3Keep the Vanderbilt answer distinct from the Common App or Coalition personal essay; a transfer applicant should check the platform's transfer prompt.
How to approach the writing
- Use the approximately 250 words for one developed example rather than an inventory of identities or activities.
- Preserve your own voice. Vanderbilt says the essay should not be rewritten by a parent, teacher, or other helper.
