University College Utrecht academic motivation statement
University College Utrecht asks applicants to explain how its Liberal Arts and Sciences program serves their ambitions and which subjects they would combine. The 300–500 words cover both questions together, alongside a separate activities form and academic reference.

What to prepare
- 1Explain why a flexible Liberal Arts and Sciences degree fits your academic and personal aims better than a single-subject path.
- 2Name a combination of subjects you would study and show how the fields could inform one another.
- 3Trace those interests to coursework, independent reading, or a question you have pursued.
How to approach the writing
- Answer both published questions within one combined 300–500 word response.
- Keep activities and responsibilities in the separate form unless one directly explains your academic motivation.
Before you submit
For Fall 2027, UCU opens applications October 1, 2026. Its early deadline is December 1, 2026 and regular deadline is February 1, 2027 at 23:59 Dutch time. The statement, activities form, academic reference, and other required documents must be complete in OSIRIS after Studielink registration; Rosemary Orr scholarship applicants must use the early round.
