Stanford's three longer questions cover curiosity, a note to a future roommate, and the contribution you would make through your experiences and character.
Writing format
Several 50-word answers and three essays of 100–250 words
What to prepare
- 1Show an idea or experience that makes you want to learn more, and what you did with that curiosity.
- 2Write the roommate note as a real introduction to daily life, not another accomplishments essay.
- 3Explain a distinctive contribution using experiences and interests you can substantiate.
How to approach the writing
- Use the three essays for different evidence: learning, living with others, and contribution.
- The 50-word answers reward specific nouns and direct sentences.
Before you submit
Stanford says its questions become available in early August each year. Verify the live Common Application wording before drafting the final version.
