Politecnico di Milano Urban Planning motivation letter and essay
Politecnico di Milano's undergraduate Urban Planning selection uses two different written documents and a short interview. The letter explains the choice of program; the essay uses reading and personal experience to examine cities, environment, and landscapes. This is a program-specific entrance route, not a rule for every Polimi bachelor's degree.

One-page motivation letter and one-page essay, each at most 3,000 characters
What to prepare
- 1In the motivation letter, explain why Urban Planning: Cities, Environment & Landscapes is the course you want, using an observed place or planning issue.
- 2In the separate essay, examine the relationship among cities, environment, and landscapes through a relevant reading and an experience you can discuss.
- 3Prepare to defend and extend the ideas in both documents during the selection interview.
How to approach the writing
- Keep the letter and essay distinct, each on one page and under 3,000 characters including spaces.
- Follow Polimi's published A4, margin, font, and heading specifications before uploading the documents.
Before you submit
The 2026–27 instructions require both documents by noon on the working day before the interview. Verify the admissions year, interview booking, exact upload deadline, and document specifications for your intake.
