About this scholarship
Continuing master's or doctoral students in York University's School of Arts, Media, Performance and Design or Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies whose research focuses on social justice, human rights, equality, equity, and inclusion may apply. Priority goes to research involving creative work (such as digital media, film, performance, visual arts, or creative writing) or knowledge dissemination with potential impact beyond academia.
The award is $2,500 (subject to change).
Apply through the Financial Aid, Awards and Scholarships (FAAS) system with a research statement describing the social justice focus and broader impact, plus an up-to-date CV.
The award honours Jewish journalist and editor Wilhelm Cohnstaedt, active in Weimar Republic politics, who resigned from the Frankfurter Zeitung rather than write a compromising editorial about Hitler's appointment as Chancellor, then fled Germany into exile.
