About this scholarship

Undergraduate juniors (or UK third-year / five-year program equivalents) at U.S. or international colleges in science or engineering, with interest in oceanography, ocean engineering, or marine policy, may apply.

The Summer Student Fellowship is a paid 10- to 12-week research placement at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The structured stipend is $721 per week; fellows also receive a travel allowance and institution housing. Applications typically open in early December and close in early February. Materials include essay responses, a CV, an unofficial transcript, and two references.

Fellows work on a research project with WHOI sponsors, join seminars and talks, and take part in a hands-on ocean sampling cruise.
