About this scholarship
For UBC Vancouver graduate students engaged in ornithological research projects. Preference is given to those studying wild birds.
Fellowships were endowed through a bequest by Werner Hans Hermann Hesse. Per-recipient amounts vary. Awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies through UBC's annual Affiliated Fellowships competition.
Werner and Hildegard Hesse developed a passion for wild birds through UBC night classes and became leaders in amateur ornithology, funding research and long-term monitoring of Pacific Coast seabird populations.
