About this scholarship
U.S. citizens with a bachelor's degree in French language and literature from an accredited four-year institution, a minimum 3.0 GPA, and superior competence in French who can show that active use of French plays or will play a significant role in their career may apply for the Walter J. Jensen Fellowship. Phi Beta Kappa membership is not required; preference may go to members and to educators teaching at the secondary level or above.
The fellowship carries a $17,000 stipend for at least six continuous months of study in France, plus a round-trip economy ticket. Fellows submit progress reports in English and French and a final report suitable for scholarly publication. The proposed study may be independent research or part of an accredited program focused on standard French (not Creole, Quebecois, or other dialects).
Established by Professor Walter J. Jensen, the fellowship supports education in French language, literature, and culture in the United States.
