About this scholarship
For a Black woman or gender-diverse student in their final year of secondary school in the Toronto District School Board who plans to attend an accredited Ontario university or college. Nominees must meet or exceed the Ontario Ministry of Education standard of good academic standing (minimum average of 70% in 6 U/M credits or equivalent), be a positive role model and advocate within Black communities, and be an active leader in their school or broader community in areas such as equity, diversity, inclusion, human rights, social justice, or community engagement.
The selected student receives a monetary award. Amount varies in the catalog listing.
Nomination requires one reference letter (maximum one page) speaking to the nominee's contributions to Black communities and/or role as a community leader. This award is offered in partnership with the TDSB as part of Toronto Metropolitan University's Viola Desmond Awards program.
