About this scholarship
Registered, active Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venturing Crew members, or Sea Scouts who have earned the Eagle Scout Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venture Summit Award, or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award may apply for the VFW Scout of the Year Scholarship. Applicants may not be older than 18.
Three awards of up to $5,000 recognize standout citizenship, patriotism, and love of country.
Apply through the VFW Scout of the Year program. The VFW has partnered with scouting organizations since 1915.

- Photograph in correct complete uniform for current rank
- High School Participation Record
- Scouting Record
- Community Service Record
- Letters of recommendation
- Completed VFW Scout of the Year Official Entry Form (submitted to a local VFW Post by March 1)
- Photograph of the Scout in correct, complete uniform for current rank (recommended 3" x 5"), attached to the form
- High School Participation Record: single page, one side resume of high school activities (academics, offices, honors, other activities)
- Scouting Record: maximum three pages, one side only, listing all Scouting participation, leadership positions, and the Eagle/Gold/Summit/Quartermaster project
- Community Service Record: single page, one side resume of community and religious service (excluding Scouting and school)
- Letters of Recommendation: maximum of five letters, two pages each judged; must include one from a school, one from a community member, and one from a Scout leader
- Submit the entry form to a local VFW Post.
