Verna J Kirkness (Ni-jing-jada) Award

For First Nations students in the UBC Faculty of Education on the Vancouver campus. Preference goes to students involved in academic projects or research that advance Indigenous education.

Awards totalling $9,350 are available through an endowment established by friends, colleagues, and the university in honour of Dr. Verna J. Kirkness (Ni-jing-jada). Recipients are chosen on Faculty of Education recommendation, in consultation with the First Nations House of Learning and, for graduate students, the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

There is no separate application.

Dr. Kirkness was the founding Director of the First Nations House of Learning and the Ts'kel graduate studies programs.
